Crystal Ball 11.1.1.0.00 is the most recent version of Crystal Ball. It has been developed to run on the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, technology from Microsoft for developing secure and advanced Windows applications.

To run the current version of Crystal Ball, you must have the following:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3, Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2, or Windows Vista (tested on Windows Vista Enterprise, Business, Home Premium, and Home Basic editions)
  • Microsoft Excel 2000, 2002 (XP), 2003, or 2007
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (or 3.0 or 3.5 with Windows XP versions or Vista)
  • Personal computer with Pentium-equivalent microprocessor (800 MHz or faster)
  • At least 512 MB of RAM
  • At least 88 MB of hard disk space for .NET Framework 2.0 and another 58 MB for .NET Framework 3.0 or 3.5 (if not already installed) and 80 MB for Crystal Ball. (Note: Each of those two components requires approximately twice the given amount of disk space during installation.)
  • CD-ROM drive

International Support for Crystal Ball

This version of Crystal Ball is officially supported on the following non-English versions of Microsoft Windows with Microsoft Office in the same language: Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. However, localized (translated) versions of this version of Crystal Ball are currently not available. Those who wish to use Crystal Ball with Windows Vista and/or Excel 2007 must download and install the English version of Crystal Ball 11.1.1.0.00.

If you are using this version of Crystal Ball on an English operating system with non-English regional settings, we recommend that you install the Microsoft Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack for your version of Microsoft Office. If you don't install the Microsoft MUI Pack, Excel will appear with the regional formatting and Crystal Ball will appear with English formatting. For more information about the MUI Pack, visit Microsoft and search for MUI within the Microsoft Web site.

Note: If you are using Crystal Ball on a non-English version of Excel 2007 and you save a Crystal Ball 7.x or 11.x model in .xls format to one of the Excel 2007 formats (.xlsx, .xlsb, or .xlsm), a warning message appears. This message explains that the scripts in the workbook are an unsupported feature. Please ignore this message. Your Crystal Ball data will be saved. For best results, Crystal Ball should be open when the model is saved.

If you install this version of Crystal Ball over a non-English version of Crystal Ball 7.2.x, Crystal Ball will appear in English. You must uninstall this version and re-install the earlier translated version to restore the non-English version of Crystal Ball.

Platform Support

**Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is required (optionally, 3.0 or 3.5 for XP and Vista) **

This version of Crystal Ball is an application built against and tested on Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 and will run by default on these versions of Microsoft .NET Framework on a machine containing these versions as well as other versions of the .NET Framework (for example, 1.1). See the following Web site for more information:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa497340.aspx (copy link and paste into browser)

A supported version of Microsoft .NET Framework must be installed on your computer before you can run this version of Crystal Ball. Crystal Ball must be locked to one of these supported versions of Microsoft .NET Framework to run properly. If you do not have a supported version of Microsoft .NET Framework installed, one will be automatically downloaded when you install Crystal Ball.

You might also have difficulty loading Crystal Ball when you start it with both supported and unsupported .NET Framework versions installed. If this happens, choose Start > Programs > Crystal Ball > Application Manager. Be sure this setting is checked in the Crystal Ball Application Manager: "Use Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0, 3.0, or 3.5 (Recommended)." Then, click OK and restart Crystal Ball.

Crystal Ball and Microsoft Windows Vista

As stated above, starting with version 7.3, Crystal Ball is officially supported on Windows Vista. However, there are issues with certain Crystal Ball files in Vista:

  • Files installed in the Windows Vista Program Files folder are opened as read-only files in Excel, even though that property is not set. If you want to modify the Crystal Ball Examples files, save them under another name before attempting to run a simulation on them.

  • If you are using Windows Vista, familiarize yourself with the locations of folders mentioned in this Guide, such as My Documents and Application Data. For example, My Documents is under C:Users instead of C:Documents and Settings as in earlier versions of Windows.

  • The legacy WinHlp32 viewer for online help files is not shipped with Windows Vista, so 32-bit help files in WinHelp format with extension .hlp (such as the CB Predictor help) cannot be opened. For information from Microsoft about downloading a viewer, see:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 (copy link and paste into browser)

**Crystal Ball and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows **

Testing on a 64-bit version of Windows XP Professional suggests that the current version of Crystal Ball should perform acceptably in 32-bit emulation mode on 64-bit Microsoft operating system platforms, including Vista (tested on Vista Business). However, Crystal Ball does not fully support the 64-bit features of these systems at this time. When running in 32-bit emulation mode, Crystal Ball has the same 1 - 1.5 GB memory limitions encountered when running on 32-bit Windows operating systems. Other 32-bit limitations also apply.

**Note -- Different Default Installation Folder: **Because this version of Crystal Ball is a 32-bit application, its default installation folder on 64-bit machines is C:Program Files (x86)OracleCrystal Ball, not C:Program FilesOracleCrystal Ball (as mentioned in the Crystal Ball Installation and Licensing Guide).

**Crystal Ball and Windows Server 2003 **

Crystal Ball is officially supported on Windows Server 2003.
